Youth Opportunities

Attention to all Grade 12 graduates of 2024!

AFGRI is excited to offer an engaging opportunity for an internship training program at various branches throughout South Africa. This announcement is specifically aimed at matriculants of 2024; however, all other interested applicants are encouraged to apply in the subsequent round, scheduled from September 1, 2024, to October 10, 2024. The internship is slated to commence on the first working day of January 2025.

We are on the lookout for dynamic, self-motivated individuals with the necessary technical skills who aspire to qualify as Artisans. The internship program provides participants with the chance to grow within AFGRI under the mentorship of our leaders, with informal training and on-the-job development opportunities in multidisciplinary teams.

The internship program spans three years and will focus on qualifying as a Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Mechanic. The initial six months serve as a probationary period, during which both the company and the apprentice assess the suitability of the relationship. Either party may withdraw during this period without consequences. Following successful completion of the probationary period, the apprentice will be bound by an AFGRI contract and will commence formal training.

The training program includes practical sessions at designated Practical Training Institutes, enrollment in relevant subjects at a College for distance learning, and attendance at classes on Saturdays if needed. The apprentice will also undergo Product Training at the John Deere Training Facility in Boksburg and other supplier locations, along with internal training provided by our specialists.

Training costs are covered by AFGRI for successful completion, but any failed training modules must be redone at the apprentice’s expense. The internship is governed by a three-year contract with AFGRI, and costs will be incurred should the apprentice withdraw during the internship or the “work-back period.” The contract cannot be extended beyond four years.
