Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme (MFMIP) Overview:
Aligned with the Municipal Finance Management Act, No 56 of 2003 and its reforms, this National Treasury initiative seeks to empower young graduates for careers in Local Government.
Key Objectives of the Internship:
- Achieve specific learning outcomes outlined in the National Treasury Finance Intern Skills Development Programme.
- Interns will receive training primarily in Finance, Internal Audit, and Risk departments to develop essential skills.
- Gain exposure to the implementation of MFMA, GRAP Standards, Policies, and Procedures.
Requirements:
Applicants must be from the Knysna municipal area and hold a completed three-year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma (NQF Level 7) with majors in Accounting, Economics, or Finance. Additional qualifications in Internal Audit and/or Risk Management are advantageous. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as computer literacy, are essential.
Successful applicants will be required to sign an internship agreement, demonstrating commitment to the MFMI Programme, including full participation in training and workplace programs. Interns will also be subject to the Municipal Disciplinary Code.
