Graduate Internship Programme and Work Integrated Learning (WIL)

Makhado Local Municipality is devoted to supporting the career development of young professionals. We are offering internship placements in various fields for university graduates and TVET college graduates. This initiative, funded by SALGA, is a strategic effort to prepare jobless youth for employment by providing them with the opportunity to acquire essential work experience.

  • Computer Science & Information Systems or Information Technology: 4 positions
  • Geographical Information Systems: 1 position
  • Surveying: 1 position
  • Urban & Regional Planning: 2 positions
  • BCom Accounting: 2 positions
  • Safety Management: 2 positions
  • Archives & Records Management: 2 positions
  • Development Studies: 1 position
  • Library and Information Management: 5 positions

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Makhado Local Municipality Internship Programme / Work Integrated Learning, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen and a permanent resident of Makhado Municipality.
  2. Qualifications: Must possess the relevant qualifications in any of the fields stated above.
  3. Experience: Should not have previous working experience or participated in any internship programme.
  4. Age: Must be younger than 35 years old.

Duration and Commitment

The duration of the internship is tailored to provide substantial work experience:

  • Internship Programme for University Graduates: 12 months
  • Work Integrated Learning for TVET College Graduates: 18 – 24 months

This placement programme is a temporary engagement, designed to help participants gain valuable work experience and, for TVET learners, to fulfill the requirements for their diploma.

Applicants are required to specify the discipline or area of specialization they are applying for. The application must include:

  • Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Certified Copies of Original Qualifications
  • Academic Transcripts
  • Copy of South African ID Document (Smart IDs must be copied on both sides)
  • Testimonial Letter (for TVET learners, should not be older than the 2023 academic year)

The certifying stamp on documents must not be older than six months. Applications are to be submitted to the Makhado Registry by 25 June 2024 at 16:00 or hand-delivered to:

Selection and Appointment

Appointment is contingent upon successful security clearance, verification of qualifications, and the signing of an internship/WIL contract.
