Universities South Africa (USAf) invites unemployed graduates to apply for a 24-month Internship Programme.

Position: Internship Programme
Duration: 24 months (contract)
Location: Pretoria, Gauteng
Closing Date: June 18, 2024

This internship offers practical experience as a Project Administrator for seven unemployed graduates over a two-year period.

About the Programme:

USAf, in collaboration with the Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA), is offering graduate internships to provide practical work experience. Interns will be placed in various units within USAf’s offices, including finance and administration, Higher Education Leadership and Management, the Projects Office, and Operations and Sector Support.

Requirements:

Administration and/or Finance Internships (6 positions available):

  • A Bachelor’s degree or BTech in commerce, management, administration, information technology, office management and technology, or a related field.

Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Project Support Internship (1 position available):

  • An Honours degree in Social Sciences or Education.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Beneficial: Knowledge of project management software.

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative Support:

  • Assist managers with correspondence and general administration.
  • Collect and capture relevant information on students from institutions.
  • Research and follow up on incoming issues and concerns related to the bursary project.
  • Facilitate communication within internal divisions.
  • Perform ad hoc duties as needed.

Information Management:

  • Update project information in the project management system.
  • Assist with report preparation.
  • Securely store project documentation and manage the filing system and Central Repository.

Project Administration:

  • Manage bursary-related records and ensure compliance with donor requirements.

Financial Administration:

  • Verify and approve payments for processing.
  • Process daily and monthly transactions, maintain supporting documents, and reconcile accounts.
  • Prepare financial documents such as journals, provisions, accruals, invoices, and age analyses.
  • Conduct asset verification and maintain the asset register.
  • Handle payroll deductions, VAT submissions, and audit preparations.
  • Liaise with administrators and service providers regularly.
  • Maintain proper filing and archiving of documents.

Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation (Research Internship Only):

  • Conduct desktop research for projects and programmes.
  • Set up monitoring tools for programmes, workshops, and webinars.
  • Manage and clean datasets.
  • Generate quantitative and qualitative reports on evaluation data.
