WATER SERVICES DEPARTMENT

Position: Superintendent: Reticulation Services

  • Salary Grade: R368,723.04 – R478,613.40 p.a. (plus applicable benefits) (T12)

Requirements:

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Plumber’s Trade Test Certificate
  • 3 – 4 years’ experience in reticulation services, with 2 years at a supervisory level
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Software packages
  • Valid motor vehicle driver’s licence

Key Performance Areas:

  • Inspect and analyze reports on reticulation system performance, determining corrective measures
  • Assess pipe conditions, report breakdowns, and communicate critical repair needs
  • Collect performance statistics and address meter-related issues
  • Coordinate with personnel regarding material availability for scheduled work
  • Supervise routine maintenance activities and ensure deadlines are met
  • Address specific enquiries or complaints and determine necessary maintenance actions

Position: Artisan Plumber

  • Salary Grade: R264,550.08 – R343,387.80 p.a. (plus applicable benefits) (T10)

Requirements:

  • Grade 9/Standard 7
  • Trade Test Certificate
  • 2 – 3 years’ experience in plumbing
  • Valid motor vehicle driver’s licence
  • Skills: Assertiveness, coaching, communication (verbal), community liaison, conflict handling, decision making, leadership, people orientation, problem solving, supervisory, writing

Key Performance Areas:

  • Respond to and repair pipe bursts in emergencies
  • Install water meters
  • Maintain reticulation system and restore areas after maintenance
  • Inspect water network areas and ensure quality of work
  • Supervise staff and monitor performance
  • Ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Act provisions

Position: Driver Supervisor

  • Salary Grade: R185,345.04 – R240,604.92 p.a. (plus applicable benefits) (T7)

  • Centre: Kokstad Satellite

Requirements:

  • NQF Level 1 or Grade 9
  • Valid (unendorsed) Code EC driver’s licence with PrDP
  • 1 – 2 years’ relevant experience

Key Performance Areas:

  • Perform tasks associated with using heavy vehicles to/from sites
  • Inspect safety devices and report defects
  • Participate in loading/offloading sequences
  • Transport personnel, material, tools, and equipment
  • Operate specialized heavy vehicles for water collection and transport

Position: General Worker

  • Salary Grade: R118,716.36 – R136,850.64 p.a. (plus applicable benefits) (T3)

Requirements:

  • Grade 9/Standard 7
  • 6 – 12 months’ experience in Water and Sanitation services maintenance
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and do shift work

Key Performance Areas:

  • Assist in operations and maintenance of water and sanitation infrastructure
  • Cut/trim lawns and clear overgrown shrubs
  • Prepare work sites and load/off-load equipment
  • Excavate and backfill trenches
  • Clean and remove blockages from drainage systems
  • Prepare materials like concrete and mortar
  • Clean and maintain equipment

OFFICE OF THE MUNICIPAL MANAGER

Position: Communications Officer

  • Salary Grade: R312,309.12 – R405,414.36 p.a. (T11) (plus applicable benefits)

Requirements:

  • Grade 12/Matric
  • 3-year qualification (NQF Level 6) in Public Relations or Communication Science
  • 2 – 3 years’ relevant experience
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Software packages
  • Valid motor vehicle driver’s licence

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Good communication skills
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure

Key Performance Areas:

  • Engage with media and stakeholders
  • Prepare media statements and organize press conferences
  • Manage and update social media
  • Arrange media presence for community events
  • Develop and implement communication and branding strategy
  • Write articles for internal newsletter
  • Compile quarterly newsletters
  • Arrange staff events and networking sessions
