The Gauteng Partnership Fund (GPF) invites unemployed South African graduates to apply for its Internship Programme for the 2024/2025 period, offering a 12-month opportunity to gain valuable experience in the finance sector.

Job Purpose

The primary role of the Finance Intern is to assist the Gauteng Partnership Fund (GPF) Finance Team with various finance-related tasks. This internship will provide exposure to daily financial operations, including Accounts Payable, Cashbook reconciliations, and other administrative processes within the department.

As this is an internship, applicants should have no prior relevant working experience. In line with our Employment Equity commitments, preference will be given to candidates from designated groups.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable:

  • Assist in capturing transactions on the accounting system.
  • Ensure that cash claim expenditures are accurately and promptly recorded across the business.
  • Help prepare payments for processing on the banking system.

Cash Books:

  • Assist in processing bank account entries on the accounting system (e.g., payment runs, bank charges, and interest).
  • Help prepare bank reconciliations.
  • Upload bank statements for all accounts onto the Intranet.

Petty Cash Claims:

  • Accurately and promptly capture petty cash expenditures as needed.
  • Participate in investigating outstanding claims and implementing new petty cash applications.

Economic Development & BEE Reporting:

  • Assist in preparing quarterly Economic Development (ED) reporting submissions and data collation.
  • Help prepare data and sample selection for BEE audits.

Teamwork:

  • Collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Be proactive in offering assistance to others.
  • Mentor and coach fellow interns and peers.

Ad Hoc Duties:

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Line Manager, in line with the role.
  • Assist with assignments from the CEO and CFO as required.

Requirements

Essential Competencies:

  • High attention to detail and a strong focus on delivery.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Logical problem-solving abilities.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Strong time management, prioritization, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Willingness and eagerness to learn.

Appointment Requirements:

  • Educational Background: BCom or National Diploma graduate, or an equivalent NQF level 6 or 7 qualification, with Accounting or Finance as a major.
  • Experience: No prior relevant experience is required. However, candidates with in-service training experience will be considered.
