Job Purpose

We are looking for a self-motivated individual to perform essential landscaping and reserve conservation tasks. The successful candidate will ensure the picturesque appearance of public areas and the reserve, contributing to the garden’s overall beauty and functionality.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualifications:

• Grade 10 or equivalent qualification at NQF 2 with 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification at NQF 4 with 1 year of relevant work experience.
• A Higher Education Qualification or equivalent qualification at NQF 5 is an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies:

The ideal candidate will possess the following competencies:

• Basic building knowledge and experience in paving, kerb installation, and handling horticultural motorised equipment such as chainsaws, ride-on lawn mowers, and brush-cutters.
• Estate maintenance: Ability to plan and develop maintenance activities.
• Machine and equipment care: Proficiency in maintaining and caring for garden machinery.
• Pathways and trails maintenance: Skill in maintaining garden pathways and trails to ensure safety and accessibility.
• Customer service: Excellent communication skills to interact with garden visitors.
• Compliance adherence: Ability to follow safety and maintenance regulations meticulously.

Key Performance Responsibilities

The Specialized Assistant: General Conservation will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

Estate Maintenance, Planning, and Development

• Undertaking regular maintenance and landscaping tasks to preserve the garden’s aesthetic and ecological health.
• Participating in the planning and implementation of new garden features and improvements.

Machine and Equipment Care

• Ensuring all tools and equipment are in excellent working condition.
• Performing routine checks and maintenance on machinery to extend their lifespan and efficiency.

Garden Pathways and Trails Maintenance

• Regular inspection and upkeep of garden pathways and trails to ensure they are safe for public use.
• Implementing measures to prevent erosion and other environmental impacts.

Customer Service

• Assisting garden visitors with information and guidance to enhance their experience.
• Responding promptly to any inquiries or issues raised by the public.

Adherence to Compliance

• Following all organizational policies and procedures related to safety, maintenance, and customer service.
• Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
