Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for the position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. South African Citizenship: Applicants must be South African citizens with no criminal convictions or departmental cases.
  2. Language Proficiency: Fluency in at least two official South African languages, with English being one of them.
  3. Security Certification: A Grade C Security Certificate or higher is required. Registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) is mandatory.
  4. Firearm Competency: Candidates must not be declared unfit to possess a firearm and must be willing to undergo firearm competency training. Maintaining firearm competency is essential for the duration of employment.
  5. Additional Qualifications: A Degree/Diploma in security or related fields, a valid driver’s license for light motor vehicles, and any additional security-related certifications will be considered advantageous.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Security Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of SAPS premises. Your duties will include:

Access Control

  • Implement and monitor Access Control as per the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act (Act No. 53 of 1985).
  • Ensure positive identification of employees, visitors, and contractors entering the premises.
  • Maintain detailed records by registering employees, visitors, and contractors, and conducting electronic searches.

Visitor and Contractor Management

  • Authorize entry to SAPS premises after confirming visits with hosts and ensuring all legislative requirements are met.
  • Issue and collect admission control cards for visitors.
  • Maintain the visitor’s register to log and track all visitors entering the premises.

Premises and Equipment Patrol

  • Conduct regular patrols of buildings and secured areas to ensure the safety of personnel and assets.
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment in the field to confirm their security.
  • Proactively check all security equipment and facilities, reporting any issues or deficiencies to senior security personnel for further action.

Security Reporting

  • Keep management informed of any security breaches or potential threats, reporting issues immediately to senior security personnel.
  • Stay alert and ensure that any potential security risks are addressed promptly.
