The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) Health Department is inviting unemployed individuals to apply for various positions to provide services within health facilities. The available roles include Data Capturer, Queue Marshal, and General Worker, all essential for supporting the day-to-day operations of healthcare centers.

Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP)

Contract Type: Short-Term Contract (not exceeding 12 months)
Regions Covered: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G

Requirements

  • Minimum qualification: Grade 10 or higher
  • Youth (18 years and older) are preferred for these positions
  • Applications from people with disabilities are strongly encouraged
  • Familiarity with the City’s processes, best practices, policies, and procedures related to health and social issues
  • Strong numeric, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in using electronic devices, including email and the internet

Primary Responsibilities

General Worker Duties

  • Clean waiting areas, consulting rooms, offices, kitchens, and laundries
  • Ensure all surfaces used for clinical procedures are cleaned and dusted appropriately before setting up for operations
  • Sort and replace soiled linen in consulting rooms
  • Empty bins and keep the clinic premises free of waste

Data Capturer Duties

  • Capture and update client records
  • Compile monthly statistics of clients who accessed services at the clinic
  • File completed client records in alphabetical or chronological order and retrieve files when needed
  • Make necessary appointments using the clinic’s system
  • Coordinate the ordering of stationery, clinic records, and printed materials to ensure adequate supplies
  • Record discussions and type minutes of departmental meetings, forwarding them to relevant personnel

Queue Marshal Duties

  • Welcome and assist patients and visitors at the clinic
  • Provide information and direct clients through the clinic’s various service areas
  • Manage and control queues to ensure smooth patient flow
  • Screen patients in waiting areas and guide them to the appropriate sections
  • Oversee the helpdesk and address patient inquiries
