Job Description
As a Security Guard at Dis-Chem Pharmacies, you will provide security services in line with the company’s requirements. Responsibilities include protecting property, staff, and customers, identifying criminal activities, and ensuring safety and security by investigating disturbances while adhering to industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surveillance: Stay alert to identify and address suspicious activities, apprehend violators as per legal authority, and follow Dis-Chem’s standard operating procedures.
- Patrols: Conduct regular patrols of the premises to ensure visibility and reduce risks.
- Access Control: Monitor and regulate vehicle and pedestrian access to ensure only authorized individuals enter the site.
- Reporting: Investigate and report signs of damage or unlawful entry to management promptly.
- Deterrence: Be visibly present to prevent criminal activities, theft, or damage.
- Customer Service: Provide courteous service to visitors, customers, and employees.
- Security Checks: Perform staff, supplier, and vehicle searches, and monitor refuse removal.
- Asset Protection: Safeguard the company’s property and assets from theft or damage.
- Incident Response: React quickly during crisis situations, report incidents, and provide detailed reports to management.
- Alarm Monitoring: Monitor security systems, including alarms and video cameras.
- Night Surveillance: Conduct after-hours surveillance using closed-circuit cameras and alarm systems.
- Emergency Support: Assist emergency teams during crises and maintain order during evacuations.
- Security Advisories: Provide ongoing security tips and warnings to ensure adherence to safety measures.
- Regulation Enforcement: Enforce rules to prevent criminal activity and ensure compliance with security protocols.
Minimum Requirements:
- Educational:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate
- Grade C PSIRA accreditation
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of security experience in retail (malls, warehouses)
Advantageous:
- At least 1 year of experience in a similar role
Competencies:
- Essential:
- Knowledge of PSIRA regulations
- Fire and emergency training
- Health and safety exposure
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
- Advantageous:
- Ability to speak a third language
Special Conditions:
- PSIRA registered with Grade C accreditation
- South African citizen
- Clear criminal and credit record
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transport
- PDP (Professional Driving Permit) when deployed as a driver
