Position Purpose
The role involves providing labor support as directed by the supervisor, ensuring a safe and clean working environment or optimized cargo operations at the MPT (Multi-Purpose Terminal) and DBT (Dry Bulk Terminal).
Position Outputs
- Clean operational equipment (e.g., ship-to-shore crane windows, crane cabins, etc.).
- Inspect container conditions.
- Monitor reefer (refrigerated container) operations.
- Open and close rail wagon twist-locks.
- Load, offload, and secure cargo according to standard operating procedures.
- Hook and unhook cargo.
- Apply and remove tarps, if required.
- Place and remove dunnage (support materials for cargo).
- Clean operational areas, including rail trucks, plants, workshops, offices, sheds, and ablution facilities.
- Complete necessary documentation, such as accident reports.
- Identify appropriate cargo handling equipment.
- Shunt rail wagons in operational areas when required.
- Couple and uncouple rail wagons in operational areas when necessary.
Qualifications and Experience
Option 1:
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
- Minimum of 6 months’ experience
Option 2 (ROC):
- Grade 10 / NQF Level 2
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience
