The Council for Geoscience (CGS) invites suitably qualified and interested candidates to apply for the position of Cleaner at its Head Office in Pretoria, Gauteng.
Position Details
- Position: Cleaner
- Salary: P16 (R188,684.52 CTC per annum)
- Location: Pretoria (Head Office)

- Reporting Line: Manager: Facilities Management
Overall Job Purpose
To perform cleaning duties as instructed by the Cleaning Supervisor, following prescribed methods and schedules in line with the cleaning specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Empty waste lockers and transport waste to designated collection points.
- Clean offices, venues, general kitchens, corridors, elevators, public areas, and restrooms as per the daily/weekly schedule.
- Prepare facilities for meetings and training sessions.
- Clean walls, windows, doors, and waste lockers.
- Operate electrically powered scrubbing and polishing machines to clean and polish floors (training provided).
- Use electrically powered pick-up machines for cleaning.
- Dust, wipe, wash, or polish furniture, shelves, cupboards, and fitments.
- Replenish consumables (soap, toilet paper, paper towels) at cleaning service points.
- Clean toilets, urinals, basins, sinks, baths, showers, and drinking fountains.
- Use cleaning chemicals as directed by the Supervisor (training provided).
- Adhere to the cleaning checklist and ensure it is signed daily.
- Clean machines and equipment after use.
- Report any defective or broken equipment to the Supervisor.
- Assist in emergencies and follow relief schedules as required.
- Ensure proper documentation for collecting products and equipment.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for specific tasks.
- Comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act when using equipment and tools.
Knowledge and Experience
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills (ability to read, write, and count) preferred.
- Familiarity with cleaning materials, methods, and procedures.

- Ability to operate cleaning machinery and equipment.
- Reliable, hardworking, and detail-oriented.
Educational Qualifications
- ABET Certification or Grade 10.
- Certificate in Cleaning and Housekeeping (advantageous).
