Training Opportunity for Aspiring Tourist Guides
Programme Overview
The Department of Economic, Small Business, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA), in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, invites unemployed youth (aged 18 to 35) in the Free State to apply for the Tourism Guide Training Programme. This skills development initiative aims to equip participants with the necessary qualifications to become registered Nature and Culture Site Guides at the Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
South African citizen
Unemployed youth aged 18 to 35 years
Possess a Matric certificate or an equivalent qualification
Literate and conversant in English
A qualification in Tourism or Environmental Studies will be an added advantage
Reside within a 40km – 60km radius of the Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site (Proof of residence required, e.g., municipal bill or a letter from a tribal authority or ward councillor)
Passion for the tourism sector and an understanding of tourist guiding
Shortlisted candidates will undergo an interview, vetting process, and must sign a learner contract upon selection
Only one learner per household may apply (Affidavits will not be accepted as proof of residence)

Certified copies of their South African ID and qualifications
