About the Programme
Conservation South Africa (CSA) is offering an exciting 11-month Blue Economy Learnership for unemployed South Africans aged 18–35.
This initiative supports youth development and skills training in sustainable, ocean-based careers—focusing on kelp and line fish research.
Selected participants will be placed at a local fishing cooperative in Port Nolloth and will engage in real-world, nature-positive projects under CSA’s Oceans Programme along the Namaqualand Coastline.
Who Can Apply?
- South African citizens aged 18–35
- Residents of Port Nolloth or the Richtersveld Local Municipality
- Minimum educational qualification: Grade 10, 11, or 12 (Matric)
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with cooperative operations, including:
- Data collection and reporting
- Administrative tasks (e.g., finance, record keeping)
- Marketing and research on kelp and line fish
- Participate in hands-on conservation and sustainability activities
- Attend training sessions on:
- Marine ecosystems
- Climate change
- Cooperative structures and management
Preferred Attributes & Skills
Required:
- Strong interest in marine conservation and community development
- Willingness to learn and work outdoors
- Team player with good communication skills
- Motivation to support a sustainable blue economy
Beneficial (Not Required):
- Studies in marine or environmental fields
- Previous experience in fishing or related sectors
- Valid driver’s license
