Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric certificate)
- Must reside permanently within the City of Cape Town (proof required)
- Proficient in English and at least one other official language
- Aged between 18 and 35
- Currently unemployed (students and EPWP staff may apply)
- Medically and physically fit
- No criminal record
- Valid Code B driver’s licence (manual)
- No visible tattoos when wearing uniform
Mandatory Training & Assessments
Trainees must complete:
- Law Enforcement Skills Program SP4/2012
Shortlisted candidates must undergo:
- Written and physical assessments
- Criminal record checks (no external clearance accepted)
- City medical and drug evaluations
- Driver assessment
- Psychological assessments (if required)
Physical Fitness Tests (Compulsory & Eliminatory)
- 2.4 km run (Males: 11 min | Females: 13 min)
- Push-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
- Sit-ups (30 in 60 seconds)
- 100m dead load carry (2 x 25kg)
- 20m tyre drag
- 20m shuttle run (10 in 60 seconds)
- 2.1m wall climb
- Motorcycle reach test
- Unassisted comfort swim
Note: Pregnant applicants may not participate in physical assessments.
Conditions of Appointment
Successful candidates will be required to:
- Wear uniform and work shifts in all weather conditions
- Work in any location within the City of Cape Town
- Maintain ongoing physical and medical fitness (subject to checks)
- Undergo psychological evaluations when required
- Obtain written permission before engaging in any private work
- Understand that permanent employment is not guaranteed after the programme
Applicants previously dismissed for misconduct in local government will not be considered.

Important:

- Must be free of drugs and have no criminal record
- No employment or side business is allowed during the learnership without written City approval
- Random drug and alcohol testing may be conducted during the programme
- Canvassing or external influence will disqualify applicants
