he Western Cape Government (WCG), through the Department of Infrastructure, is offering exciting apprenticeship opportunities for unemployed youth aged 18-30. This is a chance to develop valuable skills and launch your career in the construction sector!

Key Information:

  • Stipend: R5,500.00 per month
  • Duration: 3 years and 6 months
  • Closing Date: July 31, 2025

Available Apprenticeships (by District):

  • Garden Route District:
    • Apprenticeship Electrical (Ref. APPELECGR)
  • Overberg District:
    • Apprenticeship Bricklaying (Ref. APPBRICKOVB)
  • Central Karoo District:
    • Apprenticeship Electrical (Ref. APPELECCK)

Programme Overview:

The Apprenticeship Programme includes:

  • Institutional practical training
  • Practical on-site training at building sites
  • Application of health and safety regulations
  • Maintenance of work areas
  • Undertaking administrative tasks

General Minimum Requirements:

  • Aged between 18 and 30 years
  • South African citizen
  • Resident of the specified district (Garden Route, Overberg, or Central Karoo)
  • Unemployed
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape
  • Enjoy good health and willingness to undergo a medical and substance abuse examination.
  • Willingness to work on construction sites as part of the training program.
  • Willingness to travel and work at various building sites across the Western Cape.
  • Willingness to sign an apprenticeship contract with the department.

Specific Requirements (By Apprenticeship):

  • Apprenticeship Electrical (Garden Route & Central Karoo):
    • Occupational Certificate Electrical: NQF L1 certificate in electrical trade theory or TVET equivalent with a pass in pure mathematics and science
    • Applicants with relevant experience in the trade will be recommended.
  • Apprenticeship Bricklaying (Overberg):
    • Occupational Certificate Bricklayer: NQF L3 certificate in bricklaying trade theory or TVET equivalent with a pass in mathematical literacy
    • Applicants with relevant experience in the trade will be recommended.

Competencies (All Apprenticeships):

  • Technical Skills (practical)
  • Numeracy Skills (ability to determine mathematical ability)
  • Literacy Skills (reading and writing ability)
  • Knowledge of the relevant trade (electrical or bricklaying)
  • General knowledge of the built environment
