Positions: Cashier/Cloakroom Attendant & Seasonal Lifeguard

The City of Johannesburg is seeking qualified candidates for the following short-term contract positions within the Department of Community Development – Sports & Recreation Unit. These roles offer great opportunities to serve your community and gain valuable work experience.
1. Cashier/Cloakroom Attendant
- Contract Type: Short-Term
- Location: 2 Helen Joseph Street, Arts & Culture Building, Newtown
- Salary: R15 115.49 per month (all-inclusive, no benefits)
- Vacancy Reference: STC 015/2025
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 10 certificate
- Basic literacy and numeracy (read, write, add, subtract)
- 3–6 months’ experience as a cashier and/or cleaner
- Ability to operate a cash register
- Reside within the Johannesburg Metropolitan Area (proof required)
- Physically and mentally fit
- Willing to undergo vetting processes
Key Responsibilities:
- Control access to swimming pools and collect admission fees
- Operate the cash register and issue season tickets
- Prevent entry of intoxicated or medically unfit individuals
- Clean ticket office, cloakrooms, and changing rooms
Skills & Competencies:
- Cash handling and knowledge of cleaning chemicals
- Good communication and ability to work under pressure
- Attention to detail and reliability
2. Seasonal Lifeguard
- Contract Type: Short-Term
- Location: 2 Helen Joseph Street, Arts & Culture Building, Newtown
- Salary: R15 115.49 per month (all-inclusive, no benefits)
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 10 or 12 certificate
- Valid Lifeguard Award and retest certificate
- Valid First Aid certificate
- 3–6 months’ lifeguarding experience
- Reside within the Johannesburg Metropolitan Area (proof required)
- Physically and mentally fit
- Willing to undergo vetting processes
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform rescues and administer First Aid
- Monitor pool safety and enforce rules
- Test and treat water using chemicals
- Maintain facility cleanliness
- Assist swimming instructors and support pool superintendent
Skills & Competencies:
- Proficient in swimming and lifesaving techniques
- Communication and computer skills
- Ability to manage stress
- Capable of lifting objects and handling pool chemicals safely
