About the TMPD Training Programme

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) invites applications from motivated, disciplined, and community-focused individuals for its Metro Police Trainee Programme. This opportunity is aimed at unemployed South African citizens aged 18–35 who wish to pursue a meaningful career in law enforcement.


Position Details

  • Position Title: Metro Police Trainee
  • Location: All Regions of the City of Tshwane
  • Department: Tshwane Metro Police
  • Division: Training and Innovation
  • Section: Police Training (Academy)
  • Remuneration: Monthly stipend (amount to be determined by the department)

Job Purpose

To recruit entry-level trainees who are physically and mentally fit, intelligent, and committed to a career in policing. Successful candidates will be trained and, upon completion, deployed as Metro Police Officers to serve and protect the community of Tshwane.


Key Responsibilities (After Training Completion)

Once training is completed, Metro Police Officers will be expected to:

  • Enforce the National Road Traffic Act, 1996, and other relevant laws
  • Conduct traffic policing
  • Enforce municipal bylaws and regulations
  • Participate in crime prevention activities

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Be a South African citizen and resident of the City of Tshwane
    • Provide proof of residence (e.g., utility bill)
    • If the surname differs from the account holder, attach an affidavit confirming residence
  • Have a Grade 12 (Matric) certificate with documentary proof
  • Hold a valid manual driver’s license
    • Must pass a departmental driving test
  • Have no criminal record and no pending criminal cases
    • Fingerprints will be taken at the applicant’s cost
  • Be medically fit to perform strenuous exercise
    • Submit a medical certificate
  • Not be listed on the register for sexual or child offenders
  • Not have been dismissed from government service due to misconduct
  • Not have been declared incompetent to possess a firearm under the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000)
  • Have no visible tattoos while in uniform
  • Be proficient in English
  • Be willing to sign the TMPD Code of Conduct

Assessments

Applicants must be willing and able to:

  • Successfully complete a physical fitness assessment
  • Pass a psychometric evaluation
  • Complete an English proficiency test
