As a Merchandiser, you will play a key role in ensuring Clover’s products remain fresh, visible, and appealing to consumers. Job Purpose

The Merchandiser is responsible for:

  • Servicing assigned retail stores
  • Ensuring shelves are well-stocked and visually appealing
  • Reducing product returns through proactive stock management

This position requires a combination of communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate should be capable of maintaining positive relationships with store staff, area management, and Clover’s head office teams.

Your role will directly impact Clover’s sales performance and brand visibility throughout the Free State region.


Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
  • Relevant work experience in merchandising, retail stock control, or customer service
  • Residence in or near Welkom (advantageous)
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays
  • Fluent in Business English (written and spoken)

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Merchandiser will perform a variety of functions to maintain product standards, optimize shelf visibility, and ensure smooth in-store operations.

1. Stock Control and Ordering

  • Implement proper stock control measures in both sales and backup storage areas.
  • Prevent out-of-stock situations by actively monitoring inventory levels.
  • Place accurate and timely orders according to approved schedules.
  • Maintain clean, neatly arranged displays that reflect Clover’s brand quality.
  • Record and manage product returns, minimizing waste and financial loss.
  • Ensure all crates and company equipment are managed according to policy.

2. Shelf and Display Management

  • Apply shelf control standards based on store and Clover shelf plans.
  • Pack shelves efficiently and according to store flow guidelines.
  • Keep fridges clean, well-stocked, and properly functioning.
  • Maintain planograms and product layouts for consistent presentation.
  • Ensure price labels (PI labels) are correct and clearly visible.
  • Install and maintain point-of-sale (POS) materials in assigned locations.

3. Customer Service and Relationship Management

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with store management, area managers, and head office.
  • Communicate regularly to address operational issues and improve store performance.
  • Understand store-specific needs and customize merchandising efforts accordingly.
  • Represent Clover’s brand with professionalism and respect in every interaction.

4. Administration and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of stock levels, returns, and orders.
  • Submit daily and weekly reports on store conditions and product performance.
  • Report any damaged or expired stock to management promptly.
  • Support internal audits with accurate documentation and compliance records.

5. Business Development Support

  • Identify new opportunities to increase product visibility and sales.
  • Suggest improvements or promotional ideas to enhance brand exposure.
  • Track competitor activity and report insights to management.
  • Support marketing campaigns and ensure promotional materials are properly displayed.

Work Environment

This position involves working in a fast-paced retail environment that requires attention to detail, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Candidates must be comfortable with:

  • Physical activity such as lifting and moving stock
  • Traveling between stores in the assigned area
  • Working early mornings, weekends, and public holidays
