Transnet Freight Rail is hiring 16 General Workers for a 6-month fixed-term contract in Durban. This is your chance to gain valuable hands-on experience in track engineering and construction while contributing to one of South Africa’s most important industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow instructions from the Site Supervisor and Team Leader.
- Load, offload, and handle construction materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized work site (sweeping, removing weeds, disposing of waste).
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
- Assist engineering teams with track repairs and installations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain punctuality.
Requirements
Minimum:
- Grade 9 certificate
- Physical fitness (must pass a medical examination)
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Willingness to work extended hours or on short-notice shifts
- Strong work ethic and commitment to safety
Preferred:
- At least 6 months’ experience in construction, maintenance, or a related field
