The City of Cape Town is seeking dedicated and physically fit individuals to join the Fire Services Department as Wildland Firefighters. This vital role requires courage, resilience, and a commitment to protecting our environment and communities from vegetation fires.

Position Overview
As a Wildland Firefighter, you will play a critical role in:
- Combating vegetation fires across diverse terrains.
- Maintaining firefighting vehicles and equipment for operational readiness.
- Assisting in fire prevention measures such as clearing firebreaks.
- Upholding safety standards and supporting the community in emergencies.
This is a demanding yet rewarding role, requiring teamwork, quick decision-making, and strong physical fitness.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute firefighting operations under supervision.
- Respond to and combat vegetation fires.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain firefighting vehicles and equipment.
- Carry out fire station duties and assist with firebreaks.
- Participate in continuous training and skills development.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 Certificate.
- Age: 18 years or older.
- Training: Willingness to complete comprehensive firefighting training.
- Location: Ability to be stationed at any Cape Town fire station.
- Work Hours: 40 hours per week, including shifts (with overtime when required).
- Experience: Fire-related industry experience (advantageous, not mandatory).
- Other: No criminal record, ability to handle high-pressure situations, strong teamwork skills.
Compulsory Fitness Test
All shortlisted candidates must pass the following:
- Reach test (1.9 m)
- 2.4 km run — Males: 12 min | Females: 13 min
- Push-ups: 30 in 60 seconds
- Sit-ups: 30 in 60 seconds
- Dead load carry: 2 × 25 kg drums over 100 m
Additional Selection Requirements
- Written assessment and interview.
- Fingerprint or ID verification (criminal record check).
- Medical evaluation for fitness for duty.
- Compulsory drug test.
