Key Responsibilities
As a Property Caretaker, you will perform maintenance and repair tasks to support the hospital’s operations and ensure all facilities remain safe, clean, and functional. Duties include:
- Basic Repairs & Maintenance: Perform general repairs such as fixing doors, taps, handles, windows, and light fittings.
- Groundskeeping: Clean, weed, and maintain pavement and garden areas; remove rubble and debris.
- Litter Control: Keep hospital premises clean at all times, in line with OHS procedures.
- Watering & Irrigation: Maintain garden and planted areas through regular watering.
- Lawn Care: Cut grass using lawnmowers and brush cutters; trim edges and maintain neatness.
- Tree & Shrub Care: Prune, shape, and remove dead leaves or branches as needed.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate groundskeeping tools such as tractors, power mowers, blowers, and brush cutters.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Infection Prevention and Control principles.
- Teamwork: Work independently or collaboratively within a team.
- Relief Duties: Be prepared to rotate and assist in other maintenance sections when required.
- Customer Service: Apply Batho Pele principles when interacting with staff and the public.
- Additional Tasks: Perform any lawful duties assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Minimum of Grade 10 / ABET Level 4 certificate (attach original school report or transcript with school stamp).
- Experience: Previous handyman experience (gardening, plumbing, painting, fixing handles, replacing taps or globes) in a formal environment is an added advantage.
- Attach a stamped and signed testimonial from a previous supervisor.
- Physical Fitness: Must be physically able to perform demanding manual tasks.
- Availability: Willing to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and night duty.
- Teamwork: Ability to work well under pressure and as part of a team.
